This picture is from July 4th, the last day of
the Senior team summer training camp that started on Friday June
18th. The Seniors competed 27 workouts in 17 days and swam
nearly 200,000 yards. Shown are some of the Seniors who
completed this feat. Many were awarded the "Grote" cap
for excellence during the camp. Kurt Grote was NCA's `1996
Olympic Gold Medalist.
Coach Tim's name is mentioned on
the Big 10 cable channel. This is in the 400's for Time
Warner. 2009 Big 10 Championship - at the beginning of the
400 IM the announcer mentions that in the prelims Tyler Clary broke
an 8 year Big 10 standing record set in 2001 by Tim Siciliano.

USA swimming news in Barcelona!!!
The second and final day
of the Mare Nostrum stop in Barcelona featured another solid day of
swimming from the National Youth Team, as well as strong
performances from National Teamers Ariana Kukors, Rebecca Soni and
Eric Shanteau.
National Youth Teamer Missy Franklin (pictured, left) added
to her strong performances in Barcelona with a third-place finish
in the women’s 200m back. Franklin swam a 2:10.69, just
four-tenths off the first place finisher. China's Zhao Jing
was first in 2:10.21 while New Zealand's Melissa Ingram was second
in 2:10.51. Franklin also placed sixth in the 100m free with a time
of 55.58.
Other top-eight Youth Team performances in Barcelona included
swims by Camryne Morris, Chelsea Chenault, Eric Hedlin, Rachel Bootsma and
Kendyl Stewart.
Rachel Bootsma finished fourth just outside of medal contention in
the 50m back with a time of 28.52. Camryne Morris placed fourth in
the 400m free in 4:10.00. 4:14. Chelsea Chenault finished seventh
in the same event in 4:13.42.In the women’s 200m back,
Madison White was sixth in the 200m in 2:13.33. Camille Adams
placed eighth in the 200m fly with a time of 2:13.60. Eric Hedlin was seventh in the 1500m free
with a time of 15:40.67, while Kendyl Stewart was seventh in the
50m fly in 27.54.
In the women’s 200m IM, Ariana Kukors lowered the meet
record with a time of 2:11.24. Scotland's Hannah Miley took second
in 2:12.99, while Caitlin Leverenz of Cal Aquatics finished third
in 2:13.76.
Rebecca Soni added to her Mare Nostrum medal haul in the
women’s 100m breast. Soni finished in 1:06.27 to beat
Russia's Yuliya Efimova, who was second in 1:06.79. Sweden's Joline
Hostman finished third in 1:08.95.
Eric Shanteau earned the top spot in the men’s 200m breast
with a time of 2:11.59. Japan’s Kosuke Kitajima was a very
close second in 2:11.64, while Russia's Grigory Falko was third in
2:13.65.
Robert Margalis finished third in the men’s 400m IM in
4:20.37. Brazil's Thiago Pereira earned the top spot in the event
with a time of 4:16.85, while South Africa's Chad Le Clos was
second in 4:20.23.
Jessica Hardy placed second in the women’s 100m free with a
time of 55.16. Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom had a strong swim to get the
win in 54.87, while Canada's Victoria Poon rounded out the top
three in 55.29. Kara Lynn Joyce was fourth in 55.48.
Katie Hoff also picked up a medal on the final day of competition
in Barcelona, finishing third in the women’s 400m free in
4:09.37. Australia's Blair Evans won the event in 4:07.70, while
Denmark's Lotte Friis placed second in 4:07.92.
Congratulations to Ariel Jordan and Lauren
McClure. They competed in the 5K Open water National
Championships event in Long Beach this weekend. Both came in
at 1 hour 6 min. We are very proud of you girls!!! Way
to go!!!

North Coast Aquatics was founded in 1979 by Head Coach Jeff
Pease as one of the first coach-owned swim teams and is
currently the largest competitive swim team in the San Diego
area. NCA has 375 swimmers and 9 highly qualified coaches,
consistently fielding the strongest swim program in the county.
The North Coast mission statement is: "To provide a
program where each swimmer can achieve his/her highest level
possible and ultimately the attainment of the best college
opportunity possible." Over the last 30
years NCA and helped place over 225 of its swimmers into major
colleges across the United States.
