
Jeff Pease

Head Coach Jeff Pease has directed North Coast Aquatics since
1979. During his tenure Jeff has coached Olympic and National
Champions as well as over 150 Junior and Senior National swimmers
and sent over 160 swimmers to major colleges across the country.
He established North Coast as the premier swimming program in
San Diego County and one of the strongest in the U.S. North Coast
was recognized as a 2004 Gold Medal Club, one of only 18 in the
United States. Because of his coaching accomplishments, Jeff has
been a member of the United States National Team coaching staff
since 1997 and was selected to coach the United States National
Junior Team that competed in Australia in 2003.
Jeff was born in Toledo, Ohio and culminated his high school
swimming career with All-American honors in two events. He went on
to Stanford University on a swimming scholarship where he graduated
with a degree in Psychology in 1975. Jeff also earned a teaching
credential in secondary education from San Diego State U. and has
done extensive graduate work in the fields of sports psychology and
exercise physiology.
Jeff also has coached the City of Carlsbad Masters swim program
since 1986 and has trained several masters national champions and
world ranked triathletes including the 2000 Olympic silver
medalist.
Jeff has three children, Jordan, Jonathan and James.

Sean Swain
Senior Assistant

Sean Swain has been with North Coast since 2007, He is
originally from Vancouver, BC. Sean did his high school
swimming in Vancouver and was a nationally ranked age group swimmer
and a member of the Canadian National Junior Team. Sean
continued his swimming at the University of Calgary where he was a
member of multiple National Championship teams and competed for
Canada at the 1991 Pan American Games in Havana, Cuba. He graduated
with a BA degree in Sociology.
In addition to the experience gained swimming with National, Pan
Pacific and Olympic Champions, Sean brings an extensive background
of working with youth to his coaching at NCA.
Sean has lived in Carlsbad with his wife Tracey since 2004.

Marko Djordjevic
Senior Assistant
Email
Marko Djordjevic was a national champion 20 times
including 7 top honors. He was part of a 400m relay
which set the national record that has not been broken. In
1998 Marko started his career as a coach for the Partizan swim
team. Under his tutelage his swimmers won national team
competition 4 times at the national championships. They won
the team competition 9 times in Belgrade league. During this
time his swimmer established absolute national records, as
well as various youth and AG level records, a total of over 60
records. In 1999 Marko was invited to coach the Junior
National Team. This team won 4th place in the
championships in Romania. In 2002 Djordjevic was declared the
top coach by the Swimming Federation of Serbia and
Montenegro. In 2003 he again coached the Junior team at the
Balkan Championships to a 3rd place win. In 2003 he received
similar accolades at the Vidovdan Cup by the Swimming Federation of
Serbia. In 2005 Djordevic took over as coach for the
Junior and Cadet National teams of Serbia. Marko graduated
from the Faculty of Physical Culture in 2007. Djordjevic also
collaborated in scientific work included in PH.D. dissertations by
Dr. Branislav Jeftic and Dr. Milivoje Dopsaj. His themes were
altitude training and training management.
Marko has recently married and living in La Jolla.

Nate Chessey
Age Group Coach
Email
Coach Nate joined North Coast in April 2009 from Houston, TX.
While in Houston, he worked with a team of 600 swimmers. He
was the Lead Coach for the 10 & Under program, along with the
Lead Coach of the Dryland program for all competitive
groups.
Before that, Coach Nate completed his Masters in Physical
Education, within the Sport Performance program, from Springfield
College in 2008. While at Springfield he was an assistant
coach for both the Men’s and Women’s Swimming and
Diving Team. In the 2007/2008 season Springfield sent 7 swimmers to
the Division III NCAA’s. Also while doing his grad work, he
was an assistant coach for the local club team.
While swimming at Division I University of North Carolina -
Wilmington, he studied Physical Education with a concentration in
Sports Nutrition. He was team Captain, a 6-time conference
champion, conference record holder and school record holder. His
senior year he did an independent study on "Nutrition and Swimming
Performance Among Male Collegiate Athletes"
During his summers he helped coach the local swim club in his home
town of Portland, ME.

Tim Siciliano
Age Group Coach
Email
Tim Siciliano was born and raised in San
Marcos, CA and grew up swimming 10+ years with North Coast
Aquatics. Tim still holds several San Diego Imperial age
group records and North Coast Aquatics team records. Tim was
the CIF champion and still holds the 200IM and 500 Freestyle CIF
records in San Diego. He was part of the USA Swimming
National teams in 1998 and won a gold medal at the Pan AM Games in
the 1500 meter freestyle in 1999. He also won the bronze
medal at the World University Games swimming the 400IM in
2001. During his collegiate swimming career at University of
Michigan, he was the three time NCAA Champion in the 400IM, the
American record holder and US Open record holder in the
400IM. Tim also achieved the status of NCAA All-American nine
times and three honorable mentions. Tim coached Wolverine
swim camps for several summers while at Michigan, and has a genuine
love for the water. He enjoys surfing, SCUBA diving,
freediving, and fishing.

Skye Johnson
Age Group and Senior Development Coach
Email
Skye started her swimming career as a 5 yr old at Simi Valley
Swim Team. She then moved to Wisconsin and swim age group,
junior high and high school swimming there. Skye attended the
University of Wisconsin- River Falls. She was team captain
for 2 years, won most dedicated swimmer and was on the WWIAC
athletic Honor Roll. She also placed in the top 10 for the
100 and 200 back.
After college Skye moved to San Jose, Ca. where she taught PE
and was the Head coach at Santa Clara High School for the
girls and boys swim team. She has coached at swim camps such
as Pine Crest in Ft Lauderdale, USC and UC Irvine for 11
years.
Skye joined the NCA coaching staff in 2007. She was one of
the SDIS Zone coaches in 2007.
Skye moved to San Diego in August of 2007 with her sweet puppy,
Dayla.

Greg Spire
Senior Development Coach
Email
Greg Spire joined the NCA coaching staff in 2008. He has
an extensive background in Aquatics. Greg began swimming
locally at the Clairmont Boy's Club and then the San Diego Swim
Association. He swam for Madison High School.
Greg attended UCSD where he became very involved in the aquatic
programs on campus. He was a Director or Aquatic Classes at
UCSD. He has taught and coached on campus for the past 20
years.
Greg was an age group coach whith Swim San Diego and presently
also coaches with the UCSD Master's program on campus.

Amanda Larragoitiy
Novice Coach
Email
Amanda Larragoitiy coaches at both Boys and Girls club in
Carlsbad and Bally Total Fitness in Vista. She was a 4 year
high school swimmer at Central HS and was a CIF participant.
Amanda also was a member of the Water Polo team for 2 years.
She swam with the Fresno Dolphins Swim Club for 2 years.
Amanda formally coached at Encinitas for the YMCA
Riptides. She also was an instructor for Water Wise Swim
School. Amanda was the 10/U girls coach of the San Diego All
Star team in 2008. She will also accompany the team in 2009.
Amanda has her AA degree in Literature and Writing from Mira
Costa Community College.

Janne Shahan
Novice/HS prep Coach

Janne Shahan has been swimming since she was little and has
competed in club and high school swimming here in North
County. She has been working in the field of Aquatics for the
past 10 years as a swim/lifeguard instructor and Master’s
swim coach.
When she is not coaching Janne spends her time going to school
at Biola University. She joined the staff at NCA in the
spring of 2008.
She and her husband Zac, live in Vista, Ca.

Jim Barton
Varsity Coach

Jim Barton has a life time of experience in competitive
swimming. Jim started his swimming career when he was 10
years old with Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia. Jim
continued his swimming career at LaSalle College in Philadelphia
where he was a record holder in the 500 freestyle. Jim also
competed as an ocean swimmer for Avalon and Sea Isle City Beach
Patrols in South Jersey. He raised three boys with his wife,
Dianne. His sons competed in age group swimming for North
Coast Aquatics as well as Carlsbad High School. Jim continues
to swim as a master swimmer. In the past 9 years, Jim has
coached the Carlsbad High School boys swim team to 7 consecutive
CIF title championships.

Sue Parnes
Head Age Group Coach, General Manager

Sue Parnes began coaching in San Diego in 1985 for one of the
premier programs in the area at that time, Swim San Diego.
Sue joined the NCA staff in the fall of 1999.
Sue graduated from Oswego State University in NY with a BS in
Early Childhood Education with a minor in Spanish. She
completed her Master's degree at SDSU in 1980 in Education.
She swam competively in High School and College and still trains
with the UCSD Master's program.
She has been the Head Coach of the All Star team, as well as
assistant coach on multiple All Star and Zone teams. She is
active in the LSC as Age Group Chair and in the SD Coaches
Association. She was named SD Age Group Coach of the Year in
2003.
In 1992 Sue took a team of swimmers from across the nation to
Sweden and Denmark for 4 weeks of swim training and cultural
immersion. In 2007 she returned to Sweden for a
training/competition and cultural trip with 8 NCA swimmers.
In the fall of 2008, Sue took on more of an administrative role
with NCA .
Sue and her husband Bill have 2 grown daughters who swam with
the Senior program at NCA.
